How to Set Up Digital Waste Tracking in WasteBolt

Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) is the Environment Agency's mandatory system for recording waste movements in England. This guide walks you through connecting your DEFRA API code so WasteBolt can submit directly on your behalf.
What You Need Before You Start
You need a DWT API code. This is issued by the Environment Agency (or SEPA / NRW / NIEA for other UK nations) when your site is registered on the Digital Waste Tracking system. If you don't have one yet, contact your relevant regulator to register your site.

How to Connect Your DWT API Code

Open Settings
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Settings, or go directly to Settings → Integrations.

Find the Digital Waste Tracking section
Scroll to the Integrations tab. You'll see a Digital Waste Tracking card with a field for your API code.

Enter your DEFRA API code
Paste your API code into the field and click Save. WasteBolt validates the format before saving — the code is a unique identifier assigned by the EA to your site.

Submit your first waste movement
Once saved, head to Digital Waste Tracking in the main menu. Any WTN or Gate load that passes the readiness check will show a DWT Ready badge and a Submit button. See the submission guide below for the full flow.
Your API code is per site. If your organisation operates multiple permitted sites, each site needs its own API code. Multi-site accounts in WasteBolt can store separate credentials per site — contact support if you need help configuring this.
